RAINBOW LANES
Evan Smith, Madison Flatin, Hannah Hamilton, Tommie McNeal, Simon Dyck, Guillermo Castaneda, Andrew Martin
Tommie McNeal and Guillermo Castaneda captured JBT titles in exciting Pacific Northwest Conference action at Forest Grove's Rainbow Lanes.
After five very high-scoring qualifying games, bowlers competed in two-game total pinfall matches. Top scratch qualifier Simon Dyck rolled through his first match, then got by Ashton Yamasaki in the semifinals to reach the title match, His opponent would be McNeal, who beat Tyler Boe in a rematch of the previous day's title match.
Simon started the final spare-four bagger, but his carry went away following that. Meanwhile, McNeal was just getting started, throwing seven of the last nine strikes in a win over Dyck for the title, the 7th of his JBT career.
Castaneda wasn't anywhere near the cut with one game to go, then blasted a huge game to make matchplay, and he rode that momentum all the way to the final. He would play Madison Flatin, looking to avenge a painful runner-up finish the day before. It was not to be for her, however, as Guillermo rolled an excellent game in his first finals appearance to defeat Madison and win the first JBT title of his career.
Andrew Martin had a breakthrough day, rolling the event's only 300 game, and defeating Hunter Bower for the day's U17 title. Flatin had one more chance for a win on the weekend, playing Evan Smith for the Priority Girls Scratch title, but the always tough Smith edged her out for that win.
Big thanks to Allyn Clark and the team at Rainbow for a great hosting job on our first visit to this center! Want in on all the fun for all ages and averages? Just check out our schedule and come on down!
