24th ANNUAL ARIZONA INVITATIONAL
champs Cortez Schenck & Jake Creek, with finalists
Cortez Schenck and Jake Creek picked up $1,000 scholarships as champions of the 24th annual JBT Arizona Invitational tournament, hosted by Let It Roll in Phoenix.
After five qualifying games, bowlers then competed in triple-elimination matchplay. Hunter Mayes dominated qualifying, but fell quickly in matchplay, helping #2 Cerell Cardines, #3 Cortez Schenck, #5 KJ Martinez, and two-time Bowler of the Year Lucas Rabb reach the final four. In that round, KJ eliminated Cerell, giving Cortez a bye in round nine while Lucas then eliminated KJ, setting up a one-game title match against Cortez.
Rabb was looking like he would come back in the second half of the game, but a pocket 7-10 ended his chances, and Scheck's late strikes put away a 216-188 win, and the 96th title of his incredible JBT career.
The handicap division top seed had a much different result, as Jake Creek grabbed the #1 spot then went 8-1 in matchplay to cruise through to the last four. In those matches Jake eliminated Mackenzie Hammer, while Tyler Morgan eliminated Aiden Othic, setting up a finale where #2 Morgan had to beat Creek twice to take the title away. Jake won the first match to take the title and make his very first JBT title a major!
Madison Holman finished sixth in the main tournament to wrap up Bowler of the Year, then beat Koryn Marquez to add the Priority Girls Scratch Invitational to her collection. Mayes had a prohibitive lead for Bowler of the Year, and will also take the U17 crown with an Invitational win over Zach Greim.
Huge thanks to the team at Let It Roll for a great job hosting our Tour as always. Top scorers now move on to the Touring Players Championship, featuring $2,000 top scholarships to the scratch and handicap champs!
