TENPINS & MORE: TOURNAMENT OF ALL-TIME CHAMPIONS
AND TOURNAMENT OF NON-CHAMPIONS
champs Kara Thompson, Blayne Hurst, Eric Gauna, Aiden Ruiz-Jimenez (back row)
Four bowlers are JBT champs no more, while four more added to their collections, at the JBT's Tournament of Champs and Non-Champs hosted by Tenpins & More.
In the champs division, Blayne Hurst ran the scratch stepladder, starting with a 246-208 win over Carson Opela. Then, in a thriller against the only alumni to make the finals, he edged Paul Carper 226-225 to reach the final. Top seed John Green had been outstanding all day, and was no less outstanding in the title match, firing 254 in a tricky pattern. However, Blayne came up with the game of his career, blasting 279 to earn the victory, the second of his JBT career. In the handicap stepladder, Kloey Kielich began a climb with a 211-182 win over Angela Romero. Kielich then stopped Alex Thompson 218-194 to reach the finale. Eric Gauna paced the field again, and his incredible run continues with a 199-185 win over Kloey for his 6th career JBT title.
The handicap non-champs ladder began with a brother fight, as Santiago Navarrete beat brother AJ 226-178. Santi then stopped Joshua Burnett 248-194 to get to the title match. Top seed Aiden Ruiz-Jimenez had the best day of his JBT career to get to this point, and then consolidated with a 254-201 win over Navarrete to join the JBT champs' club. In the scratch division, Luis Garcia beat Noah Saul 218-177 in round one. Kara Thompson then beat Garcia to reach the title match. Top seed Alek Rakov was looking to win that elusive first title, but NM-TX is loaded with female talent, and Kara joined the scratch champs' club with a tenth frame spare that gave her a 201-192 championship.
Adel Wahner was the high female qualifier at +88, while Green led the U17 club at +181.
Big thanks to Steve Mackie and the Tenpins & More crew for their usual wonderful hosting job. Want in on all the fun and excitement? Just check out our schedule and come on down!

TOTAL AWARDED THIS EVENT: $1,656 |
Date: Sunday, December 22, 2019
Start Time: 10 AM. Check in begins at 8 AM. Please check in no later than 9:30 AM.
Max bowlers: 96. Please email director@bowljbt.com to reserve a spot. You can prepay (not required) at the 'Sign Me Up!' section of this website. Reservations (paid or unpaid) must check in no later than 30 minutes before start time. At that time, all bowlers will be taken on a first come, first serve basis until the field is full.
This is a one day event. The name above is a really long way of saying 'tournament'. Anyone who has EVER won a JBT event (including 'adults') can bowl the champs event. Anyone age 21 and under who has NEVER won a JBT event will bowl in the non-champs event.
Divisions: Scratch or handicap. It is the bowlers' choice of division. Also, everyone age 16 or under as of 8/1/19 is automatically entered in the U-17 side event. Also, every female is automatically entered in the Girls Scratch side event.
Points: This event counts for NM-TX and All-Conference points. Adults in the champs division are skipped on the points.
Entry fee: $40 handicap; $50 scratch. Scholarship brackets are available for $2 each. Raffle tickets for Ebonite bowling balls, and our PowerBowl and 24 jackpots, are available on-site.
Scholarships: 1:6 in each division earn scholarships, scratch and handicap. Minimum prizes in scratch are $250, $125, $75, $50. In handicap, $200, $100, $60, $40. Bowlers must finish in the top 4 twice in a conference to qualify for that conference's Invitational, which features $1,000 for first place. Bowlers who finish in the top 20 in a conference's points race, or the top 100 in all-conference points, qualify for the Touring Players Championship, featuring $2,000 for first.
Lane conditions: conditions vary from event to event, and are not posted prior to the event (unless otherwise announced). Some events do not post the pattern until after qualifying. Be ready for anything- it makes you a better bowler! Check out previous patterns and corresponding cut scores at the 'lane conditions' section of this website.
