ARIZONA DOUBLES

champs and finalists

Three newcomers entered the JBT winners' circle with one alumni helping along the way, in tremendous action at the JBT Arizona Doubles Classic, hosted by the great team at Bowlero Mesa.

The Las Vegas-based team of youngster Daryus Alo and PBA star Darren Tang began the scratch division Baker-format stepladder finals with a big 277-210 win over Vegas' Cerell Cardines and San Diego's Katelyn Abigania.  Arizona State star Alec Johnson then teamed with potential future Sun Devil Harper Schmidt (maybe) to beat Alo and Tang 230-160 and advance to the title match.

Top seed Shane Smith was the youth star of the day, firing his first JBT 300 game in qualifying (15-time champ Riley Dempsey had the only other one), helping him and ASU assistant coach Matt Zweig earn the number one spot.  The finale turned into a grind, ending with Alec needing all three in the tenth to tie.  Johnson got the first hit but when the second shot didn't carry, Shane and Matt escaped with the 195-185 win, Smith's first and a third for Zweig to go with his two youth JBT wins.

Lindsay Griem and Jadeyn Mabry shot a terrific 506 scratch the last game to make the stepladder finals, but their roll was stopped by Brockton and Devyn Scotford in round one of the finals 258-179.  Quinten Bell and Paityn Gaines then defeated the Scotfords 230-152 to reach their first title match each.

The top seeded father and son team of Skip and Kyler Harden turned it on in the semifinals to overtake Bell and Gaines for the lead.  Gaines had bowled very well, but Quinten had been spectacular at times, with a 279-268 scratch stretch in qualifying.  They did not find the same momentum in the final though, and late strikes from the Hardens sealed the deal, with the 222-201 final result good for not only Kyler's first JBT title, but it was the very first time he even made the cut, wow!

Mackenzie Theophilus took advantage of our "doubled" jackpots for doubles, banking a quick $200 for playing our '26' game perfectly.  Connor Steelmon-Hill took home the day's Ebonite bowling ball, courtesy of our amazing title sponsor.

Huge thanks to the fantastic support of our adult bowlers, many of who are not only JBT alumni but have gone on to great things in the sport, for taking time to bowl with today's JBT kids.  Want in on this fun and excitement?  Just check out our schedule and come on down!
