MOUNTAIN INVITATIONAL
champs and finalists
Aiden Ruiz-Jimenez and Grace Mathias each earned $1,000 top scholarship prizes as champions of the 2025 JBT Mountain Conference Invitational tournament, hosted by Albuquerque’s Silva Lanes.
After qualifying, sixteen bowlers in each division advanced to exciting triple-elimination matchplay. John Green was super impressive in gaining the top seed at a 240+ average on an extremely challenging pattern, but struggled to a 3-2 record through early rounds. #3 Jaxson Garton had no such problems, getting to 7-0 before a loss to Nathan Harnit. In the next round, Nathan was eliminated by Green, and Ruiz-Jimenez gave Garton loss #2, but that also gave Jaxson a bye. He waited as Aiden eliminated John, then faced him for the title. In the final, Ruiz-Jimenez poured on the strikes and Garton could not keep up, and Aiden earned the title, his second Invite win (he won handicap in 2020), and 6th overall JBT title.
In handicap, top seeds Matt Mathias and Harvey Howe went down quickly in matchplay, while the Forgue brothers, each of whom made it only on their season-long performance, came to life with win after win, eventually facing each other in round eight, with Brantley eliminating big brother Wesley. 8 seed Ivan John, who just got his second loss against Grace Mathias, then got a bye while Grace eliminated Brantley (whose finish was enough to earn Bowler of the Year honors) with a big game, setting up a one-game title match. Grace, who just got better and better in matchplay, came up with another great game to beat Ivan for the title. It was Mathias’ first top-4 JBT finish ever, and she can now call herself a major champion!
In a battle of veterans, Gerilynn Delegarito got past Kloey Kielich for the Girls Invitational win, while Gavin Finley was the top scorer in the U17 subdivision. Thanks as always to the Silva team for always making our Tour welcome every year. It all starts again in late August- check out our schedule and make your plans for season 30 of JBT fun now!
