SO CAL INVITATIONAL

champs & finalists
At opposite ends of their JBT careers, Kaven Massey and Kyeann Ogalino earned $1,000 scholarships as champs of the So Cal Invitational tournament, held at venerable Winnetka Bowl.
After qualifying on a demanding pattern, advancers competed in triple elimination matchplay, creating do-or-die situations throughout the center. In the scratch division, Chason Hou dominated the vast majority of the day, qualifying first then staying undefeated through seven rounds of matchplay. In round eight, Hou kept it going by eliminating #13 Gian Figueroa. Meanwhile #6 Caden Sham eliminated #10 Brandon Rother, but the 4th place finish for Brandon was still enough to earn Bowler of the Year honors. With three now left, Sham got a bye while Massey finally gave Chason loss #1. Kaven then eliminated Sham, setting up a 2-of-3 scenario between Hou and Massey. In the end, Chason had one last chance to get past Kaven, but another stubborn 10-pin plagued him in the tenth, and Massey swiped the title away, the 5th of his JBT career, and second major in a row after winning Best In The West in Tucson in May.
In the handicap division, previous day’s runner up Ogalino struggled in qualifying, but caught fire in matchplay, getting through six rounds unbeaten. Noah Dang handed him loss #1 in match seven, while in the same round #1 Christopher Whitmore eliminated Lana Ip, and Anthony Garcia eliminated Andrew Chain. Now with four remaining, Garcia ousted Dang, and in the only tie in the handicap finals, Ogalino edged Whitmore in the overtime rolloff to set up a final where Garcia needed to win twice.
Kyeann was a runway train at this point, not giving Anthony time to get settled in winning the first match for the title, $1,000 scholarship, second JBT title, and securing handicap Bowler of the Year with the incredible weekend! Title sponsor Brands of Brunswick helped our raffle with a ball of choice won by Cameron Peterson, while Jacob Miramontes took home a KR 3 ball roller courtesy of Pro Zone pro shop. Enormous thanks to the Winnetka team for their hospitality and tremendous hosting. Top season long scorers now advance to the Touring Players Championship, playing the best of the best Tour-wide for our most prestigious title and $3,000 top prizes!
