CERBAT LANES

champs Matt O'Grady & Drew Hanna

A jam-packed day of action at Cerbat Lanes saw a rookie pick up win #1, while one of JBT's biggest east coast stars captured his first west coast title, in the JBT SW's annual visit to Kingman.

The scratch division finals opened with Cameron Weier, visiting from Washington state, rolling a big 245 on the high-scoring lanes to defeat fine efforts from previous 299-bowler Brandon Donnelly (237) and BJ Baker (210).  In round two Weier took on not one but two Weyrauchs, and they were left saying "Wey me?" as Cameron's 215 beat Chris' 153 and Brian's 212.  In the semifinals, Theo Douthit, who rolled one of the event's two 300 games (Brandon Allred tossed the other), advanced to the title match with a 258 effort that was plenty to defeat Weier (206) and New York's Anthony Pepe (180).

Top qualifier O'Grady, a member of Junior Team USA, has 29 titles on the east coast version of JBT, and the New Jersey-based righty had plenty left in the tank to defeat Douthit 248-217 and capture his first JBT SW title (joining Steven Black and Matt Burley as the only ones to have JBT wins in both groups).

In the handicap division, Amanda Hodgson made the most of her first stepladder finals by rolling a big 259 in round one to defeat Michael Curry (219) and Charlie Elliott (198).  Drew Stern, a winner earlier this season in California, then came on to shoot 234 to defeat Alex Powell (200) and Hodgson (168).  In the semifinals, Drew Hanna did his Kingman hometown proud b rolling 213, advancing to the title match with a 213 game that defeated Stern (199) and a red-hot Allie Ijams (194).

Top qualifier Ashley Belden had had a career day up to that point, averaging over 210 to capture the top seed. However, the New Mexican was plagued by 10-pins in the finale, and Hanna capitalized for a 200-188 win, good for his first career JBT SW title.

Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2006 JBT SW Arizona and Mojave  Invitational Tournaments, the regular season's year end event, featuring a guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division.  Top season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2006 JBT SW Touring Players' Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per division!

Thanks to everyone at Cerbat for hosting this great event. A sellout field of 120 entrants shared in over $3,200 in scholarships awarded.  Please continue to help spread the word about the terrific benefits of bowling JBT SW events!
