| | FIESTA LANES
champs Christian Jensen & Ryan Scheer
Christian Jensen finally returned to the winner's circle, while Ryan Scheer
tasted victory for the first time, in exciting JBT SW action at El Paso's Fiesta
Lanes.
The scratch division finals opened with BJ Baker coming from way back with a
double in the tenth frame for a 216-210 win over Christina Waldron. Baker
then rolled on, defeating Bill Grant in round two 194-162, and following with a
235-159 win over hometown favorite Stephen Gaucin to advance to the final match.
Jensen has been bowling well all season, especially in the second half, but
the final results hadn't been there, with no wins. He turned that around at
Fiesta by leading after 5 and 8 games, and finished the day off with a 211-193
win over the absolutely red-hot Baker, good for his 6th career JBT title.
For Baker, it was back-to-back runner up finishes on the weekend, piling up
stats for a run to defend his All-Conference Bowler of the Year title.
In the handicap division, Jessica Palma, who won the last NM-TX event in
Amarillo, opened the finals with a thrilling 237-234 win over Kyla Casuas.
Palma and Carper then traded open frames in the second half of match two, but
Carper finally came up with a tenth frame strike for a 203-192 win. A high
scoring semifinal match saw Justin Silva, who's been on a tear himself lately,
defeating Carper 250-236 to advance to the title match.
Top qualifier Scheer was making his third finals of the season, but it didn't
look like the third time was the charm, as Silva opened with a powerful
triple. However, the match turned around late, and it was Scheer finishing
off with the strikes for a 214-190 victory, the first of his JBT career.
Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2006 JBT SW NM-TX Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a
guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division. Top
season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2006 JBT SW Touring Players'
Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per
division!
Thanks to Michelle Johnson and everyone at Fiesta for a wonderful visit
to their beautiful center. 65 entrants shared in over $1,600 in scholarships
awarded, helped out by the 9th annual Easter Egg Hunt, which was a huge success. Please continue to
help spread the word about the terrific benefits
of bowling JBT SW events!
