GLENFAIR LANES

champions Bill Grant & Rachel Lynn

Bill Grant and Rachel Lynn conquered demanding conditions at Glenfair Lanes to capture JBT SW victories in exciting JBT SW Arizona Conference action.

We say to be ready for any condition any time, and a sport-like shot was laid out to test bowlers' skill at this event, leading to a -145 scratch cut, and -26 after 8 games being enough to reach the stepladder finals.

Round one of the finals was as exciting as it gets, with David Johnston escaping over qualifying leader Will McPherson 195-194.  Johnston ran out of gas in round two, though, as Brandon Donnelly advanced with a 213-166 victory.  The tables were turned again in the semifinals, as Bill Grant tossed a big 237 to advance over Donnelly's 191, advancing Grant to the title match.

Grant, the runner-up at Glenfair last year, always seems to be near the top of the field on our tougher events.  Top-seed Brandon Allred, not to be outdone, is often near the top of JBT SW fields on any condition, and the Las Vegan was seeking his 4th career title after nabbing the top seed.  Unfortunately for Allred, he ran into a buzzsaw in Grant, who bowled extremely well in the finals. Opening with spare-five bagger, he never looked back in a 221-190 victory, good for the 5th title of his JBT SW career.

The handicap division also struggled, with any plus score being good enough to grab a spot in the finals.  Brandon Longo remained on a roll in JBT SW stepladders by opening with a 209-195 victory over Taylor King in round one.  Longo then made it 5-1 in his last six stepladder matches with a come from behind 201-198 win over a stunned Anthony Cruz in round two.  Chelsea Zemelka then came on to finally end Longo's run with a 218-168 win, advancing her to her first career title match.

Top seed Rachel Lynn then faced off against Zemelka in a low scoring battle, as both bowlers fought nerves in an effort to capture long-awaited JBT titles.  In the end, Lynn had just enough left in the tank for a 176-171 victory, good for the second title of her JBT SW career.  Lynn also earned a $50 bonus from Etonic for wearing Etonic shoes during her victory- go out and buy your Etonic shoes for your bonus now!

Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2006 JBT SW Arizona Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division.  Top season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2006 JBT SW Touring Players' Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per division!

Thanks to everyone at Glenfair, the site of the 2006 Touring Players Championship, for hosting this great event. 98 entrants shared in over $1,900 in scholarships awarded.  Please continue to help spread the word about the terrific benefits of bowling JBT SW events!
