HAVASU LANES champions Kris George & Alvin Chan Kris George remained on a nearly unprecedented roll, while Alvin Chan won his first title, in exciting JBT Mojave Conference action at Havasu Lanes. The scratch division finals opened with 20-time champion Cameron Smith rolling a big 268 to defeat Ryan Howard, who has made the finals in 3 of the 4 JBT events he's entered. Smith then just got by Tiffany Chi, one of our female scratch stars, 216-207. Kris George, easily the hottest bowler on our Tour, then defeated Smith 256-211 to advance to the title match. In order to win his fourth title in the month of February, he'd have to get by top seed and 37-time winner Steven Black, who has owned Havasu Lanes throughout his career. Kris also has a previous win here, however, and the result was a very exciting match that came down to the tenth. The veteran Black threw a great double in the tenth frame to force George to do the same. When you're hot, you're hot, and Kris stepped up and got his double for a 234-227 win, good for the 10th victory of his JBT career. The handicap division finals opened with an all-female match, with Ashley Olriksen defeating Alicia Sullivan 211-173. Olriksen rolled a fine 224 in her next game, but Alvin Chan came up with a huge 288 score to advance. Chan remained hot in the semifinals, defeating Cameron Peck 231-216 to reach the title match. Top seed Joshua Ferrer, defending Invitational champion Jordan's brother, lost the high scores he had been producing all day, and Chan kept rolling along in the finale. The result was a 2301-76 win for Alvin, good for his first career JBT title.
