MIRA MESA LANES

champions Brian Carmichael & Cameron Peck

Two bowlers won their fourth career titles in exciting JBT SW action at Mira Mesa Lanes.

Both divisions used our exciting PBA Format, where the field is whittled to 16 after qualifying, followed by best 2-of-3 matches, creating do-or-die excitement throughout the center.

In the scratch division, Chris Fore led qualifying on the demanding condition, but found himself eliminated by 16-seed Kevin Valmonte in round one, joining #2 Christina Jensen on the sidelines as well.  In round of 8 action, #15 Cameron Smith took out GT Myrick 2-0, Carmichael swept Sam Hitchcock, Forrest Holland got by Will Jackson in two close games, and Jared Lawrence beat Valmonte 2-0.

In the semifinals, #4 seed Holland out-struck Lawrence 234-215, while in the other semi, #3 Carmichael defeated Smith by a 239-183 score.

The title match was tied through seven frames with both bowlers on a 210+ pace, but the veteran Carmichael had the stronger finish, and the first strike in the tenth wrapped up a 225-207 win, good for his second of the season, and fourth of his JBT SW career.

The handicap division top seeds fared better in their matchplay, led by top-seeded Cameron Peck, continuing a dream season, advancing to the round of 8.  In that round, Peck defeated Brian Castellone 2-0, Bill Le outlasted an exhausted Kristian Lusterio in three games, Christina Fraijo swept Jeff Ingram, and Kelly Ruzylo came back to defeat Brenden Lou 2-1.

In the semifinals, #7 Ruzylo defeated #3 Fraijo 211-200, while Peck spared in the tenth to eliminate #13 Le 184-181, advancing to yet another title match.

Cameron remained in control the match, and his 204-182 win over Ruzylo was good for his fourth career title, all coming this season, putting him on a pace to shatter all JBT SW handicap division title and earning records.

Convoy Big Screen sponsored the event, and their generous donation of a DVD-VCR was won by the Cruz family, and we thank them very much for their sponsorship!
