| | SILVA LANES (Albuquerque)
champs BJ Baker & Bailey McFarland
BJ Baker and Bailey McFarland conquered demanding lane conditions to capture
JBT titles in exciting NM-TX Conference action at Silva Lanes.
The scratch division finals opened with William Entsminger being the
beneficiary of a bafflingly low-scoring effort from Jerod Florez, winning a
167-103 barnburner. A much more exciting match two ended with Andy Byer
marking in the tenth for a 196-191 win over Entsminger. In a thrilling
semifinal match, newcomer Christopher Yoshimura went down to the tenth frame
with Byer. A short count on Andy's fill ball gave Christopher a larger
margin for error, and he filled enough pins in the tenth for a 187-185 win and a
trip to the title match in his first JBT SW event.
Top qualifier BJ Baker has caught fire in the last month, leaping back into
the race for his second consecutive all-conference Bowler of the Year
award. Another nailbiter on extremely demanding lane conditions saw both
great shots and fortunate carry out of both bowlers. Baker finished with
strike-spare in the tenth for an even 200, forcing a double from Yoshimura for
the win. Christopher (who got back in the match by switching mid-game form
the 1-board to the middle arrow) flushed the first shot, but the next ball
came in high, giving BJ a 200-199 win, and his 17th career JBT title. The
win ties him for 3rd place on our all-time titles list with JD Nance.
The handicap division finals opened with Amanda Jarzemba rolling a 209 game
to get by Jacob Sanchez (185) and Ashley Belden (194). Jarzemba proved
that low age and low average are no obstacle in JBT events when her 224 won
round two over fine efforts by Santiago Withers (221) and Chris Wade
(206). In the semifinal though, Ryan Scheer was the one to squeak by, as
his 222 game just got by Jarzemba (216) and Rachel Thompson, advancing him to
his first title match.
Top qualifier Bailey McFarland had absolutely lapped the field all day long,
and the result was no different in the finale. Despite a workmanlike 200
from Scheer, McFarland blasted a huge 255 to claim her second career JBT
title.
Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2006 JBT SW NM-TX Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a
guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division. Top
season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2006 JBT SW Touring Players'
Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per
division!
Thanks again to everyone at Silva Lanes for another great visit to their
Albuquerque center. A sellout field of 96 entrants shared in over $1,900 in scholarships awarded. Please continue to
help spread the word about the terrific benefits
of bowling JBT SW events!
