| | SILVA LANES Albuquerque (Sunday)
champs Andy Byer & Kara Casaus
Survival was a matter of strikes and spares on the lanes in Albuquerque, and
in the end Andy Byer and Kara Casaus remained standing as champions in thrilling
JBT NM-TX Conference action at Silva Lanes.
The scratch field was whittled quickly from twelve survivors to six, on two
pairs. This round produced a very dramatic finish, as Justin DeDera and BJ
Baker fought each other to avid elimination. DeDera shocked himself and
the crowd when he missed a 7-pin to tie Baker at 213 and force a one-shot
rolloff for survival. Both bowlers got nine on the first rolloff, forcing
a second. This time, DeDera got 9, while BJ (who won a title the same way
just a week ago) struck to survive and advance.
In the semifinal matches, top seed Andy Byer ousted Baker, while Matt Snyder
upset Bill Grant to advance to his first ever JBT title match.
Byer had the huge experience edge in the final, and it proved to be too much
for Snyder this time. The defending NM-TX Bowler of the Year defeated Matt
224-158 to capture the 11th title of his JBT career.
A 24-survivor handicap field dwindled to just six after five rounds. In
the round of six, Aurora Popple and Susan Kurzeka were eliminated, but Justin
Silva had the highest losing score (234) to advance to the round of four.
In that semifinal round, Debbie Jarzemba defeated Silva 200-186, while her
sister Amanda almost made it an all-Jarzemba finals (no siblings have EVER faced
off in a JBT SW final), falling just short in a 235-190 loss to Kara Casaus.
In the finale, Casaus continued to improve, while Jarzemba held her own but
could not keep up with Kara's torrid pace. In the end, Kara joined her
sister Kyla as JBT champions with a 250-213 victory.
Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2006 JBT SW NM-TX Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a
guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division. Top
season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2006 JBT SW Touring Players'
Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per
division!
Thanks again to everyone at Silva Lanes for another great visit to their
Albuquerque center. A great field of 84 entrants shared in over $2,000 in scholarships awarded. Please continue to
help spread the word about the terrific benefits
of bowling JBT SW events!
