SILVA LANES (SANTA FE)

champs Stephen Gaucin & Eric Sanford

Stephen Gaucin made everyone else glad he only showed up today, while Eric Sanford reaped the benefits of showing up on time, in exciting JBT SW action at Silva Santa Fe.

The scratch division finals opened with Bill Grant defeating first-time finalist William Entsminger 226-207.  Grant then fell to the always tough Andy Byer 226-210.  In the semifinals, Justin Medina looked to make it two titles on the weekend with a 232-200 win over Byer.  Andy's loss also gave Bill Grant the points lead in a very intense scratch points race.

Top qualifier Stephen Gaucin and Medina had a look nobody else had all day, both going over +200 for 8 games when nobody else was even +100.   However, Gaucin, who missed the prior day's tournament for college orientation, saved his best for lest, firing 11 strikes for a big 280 game to defeat a dejected Medina's 168, good for the 6th title of his JBT SW career.

The handicap division finals featured an unusually high three bowlers with averages under 100, and a high average of 162.  In round one, Elizabeth Romero made her first finals a success by rolling a 214 game that edged Sara Vargas (211) and Janeyl Carper (199).

In a high scoring round two, Aaron Winchester fired a big 266 to defeat Sabrina Vargas (229) and Romero (203).  Then in the semifinal, Sanford just got the spare in the tenth frame he needed for a 224 game that beat Victoria Baca (216) and Winchester (193) to get to the finale.

Top qualifier Evaristo Baca II bowled the best out of all three Baca bowling siblings, but was unable to maintain the momentum  in the title match. Sanford took advantage for a 218-197 win and his first JBT SW title.

Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2006 JBT SW NM-TX Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division.  Top season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2006 JBT SW Touring Players' Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per division!

Thanks again to everyone at Silva's for another great visit to Santa Fe.  65 entrants shared in over $1,500 in scholarships awarded.  Please continue to help spread the word about the terrific benefits of bowling JBT SW events!
