SILVER BOWLING CENTER
champions Andy Byer & Jeremy Baca
Two veterans added another JBT SW title to their collection in terrific
action at Silver Bowling Center.
The scratch division finals opened with Andy Beyer just getting by Jeremy
Medina, 215-205, when Medina could not strike in the tenth. Andy then got
by traveling Shane Peck 228-209, and followed with a 197-193 squeaker over
Stephen Gaucin, who fired the high game of the high-scoring day with a 298
opener.
The trademark of Byer's career has been climbing the ladder, and he was able
to complete the four-match sweep yet again, this time over top qualifier BJ
Baker. Though the powerful lefty had captured the lead with a big
semifinal set, he was unable to maintain the momentum, and Andy won fairly
easily 192-175, good for the 9th JBT SW title of his career.
In the handicap division, Brittany Allen opened up round one with a big 256
game to defeat a fine 222 effort from Christa Harvey. Miss Allen, easily
beating her 78 average each game despite the finals pressure, then snuck by
Charlie Elliott 204-193. In the semifinals, Jeremy Baca threw a big
game and needed every bit of it to get by Allen in a great match, 247-238, to
advance to the title match.
Top seed Anthony Tripi had led most of the day, but found himself in trouble
against the momentum generated by Baca, the 2003 champion in Silver City.
In the end, Jeremy prevailed 212-203, good for his third career JBT SW victory.
Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2006 JBT SW NM-TX Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a
guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division. Top
season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2006 JBT SW Touring Players'
Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per
division!
Thanks again to Royce Cole and his staff for another wonderful visit to
Silver City, though we again couldn't find the million dollars in the train
station locker. 57 entrants shared in over $1,900 in scholarships awarded. Please continue to
help spread the word about the terrific benefits
of bowling JBT SW events!
