BRC SOUTH PLAINS LANES
\
champions Geoffrey Young & Ashley Belden
More high scores were the order of the day in the building that many of our
scoring records have been set, and that was just fine with Geoffrey Young and
Ashley Belden, who captured titles in exciting JBT SW action at BRC South
Plains.
The scratch division finals opened with TJ Gaudette eliminating Zach Barton
in a great match, 245-225. Gaudette got by a struggling Will Hoge in round
two 235-156, before local favorite Sam Cuevas stopped Gaudette 227-193, to
advance to the title match.
The title match between Cuevas and top seed Young was professional-quality,
with each bowler pushing the other. Young's front-five proved to be enough
of a margin in the end, and he captured his first career JBT SW title with a
257-230 defeat of Cuevas.
The handicap division finals opened with Tanner Palmer rolling a big 248 game
to defeat Debbie Jarzemba (208) and Andrew Sieffert (203). Tanner
struggled to a 173 in round two, while Ray Lozoya's 227 was just enough to edge
Kirsten Kelley's 225. A well bowled semifinal match had Lozoya coming
through with a 236 to defeat Justin Silva (223) and Travis Turner (214) to
advance to the title match.
Top seed Ashley Belden rolled all 8 of her qualifying games over 200 scratch
to nab the top seed. She remained in control most of the match against
Lozoya, until a ninth frame open gave Ray new life. Lozoya had a chance to
strike out in the tenth frame to tie. He got the first strike, but a
10-pin stood on the second, giving Ashley a 201-190 win, and her 2nd career JBT
SW title.
Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2006 JBT SW NM-TX Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a
guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division. Top
season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2006 JBT SW Touring Players'
Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per
division!
Thanks as always to Mr. Jim McClain and everyone at South Plains for being
one of our best hosts every year. 78 entrants shared in over $1,600 in scholarships awarded. Please continue to
help spread the word about the terrific benefits
of bowling JBT SW events!
