champs Theo Douthit & Bethany Baker
Theo Douthit dominated the scratch field, while Bethany Baker snuck up on the
handicap division, to win titles in exciting JBT SW Arizona Conference action at
Sunset Bowl.
The scratch division finals was all about Brandon Allred prior to the title
match. The Las Vegan opened with a 216 game to eliminate Brandon Donnelly
(152) and Kristopher Beach (201). He rolled on in round two with a 234
that beat fine efforts from Bill Grant (217) and Cayson Coyle (225).
Another well bowled battle in the semifinal saw Allred's 246 advancing over
Kevin Saunders (232) and Bryanna Caldwell (204) to reach the title match.
Top qualifier Theo Douthit had dominated the field on the demanding lane
conditions, throwing two 290 games in the 8-game qualifier. He maintained
a similar pace in the final, defeating Allred 246-221, good for his sixth title
of the season in Arizona, and his ninth career JBT victory.
Jordan Bell opened the handicap finals with a 227-174 win over Californian
Cameron Peck. Baker stopped Bell in round two, 237-189, and then escaped
in a struggle with Joey Longo 179-157, to advance to the championship game.
Top qualifier Amy Dorsey had her best JBT performance by far in nabbing the
number one position, and she and Baker engaged in a tense title match.
After a tough tenth frame open by Dorsey, Bethany got the spare she needed for a
212-206 win, good for the second title of her JBT career.
Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2006 JBT SW
Arizona Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a
guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division. Top
season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2006 JBT SW Touring Players'
Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per
division!
Thanks to everyone at Sunset Bowl for their hard work in our first visit to
their center in a few years. Over $2,300 in scholarships were awarded to the
101 bowler field. Please continue to
help spread the word about the terrific benefits
of bowling JBT SW events!
