| | THUNDER BOWL
champs Steven Black and Paul Huether
Steven Black added more history to his incredible JBT career, while Paul
Huether tasted victory for the first time, in JBT Mojave Conference action at
Thunder Bowl.
A low-scoring opening round of the scratch division stepladder finals saw
Brandon Watts getting by Justin Spurrier 160-147. The pace picked up in
game two, with Watts again prevailing, squeaking by Christian Jensen
213-211. Cayson Coyle stepped in in the semifinal match and disposed of
Watts 189-151 to advance to the title match.
Black, the champion at Thunder last year, has had an up-and-down season by
his lofty standards, but improved all day long to eventually grab the top
seed. He and Coyle engaged in a tense battle, with Steven coming out on
top 204-183. The win was the 38th of his JBT career, approaching double
anyone else, and pushed him past the $35,000 mark in career scholarship
earnings.
It was a battle of Taylors in the opening round of the handicap finals, with
Taylor King defeating Douglas Taylor 204-189. Miss King rolled on in round
two, defeating Cassy Canoy 195-176. Shane Delullo then beat King 207-176
to reach the title match.
Top qualifier Paul Huether was enjoying the best tournament of his JBT
career, and he made it 4-for-4 for top seeds this weekend, capturing his first
JBT title with a 200-184 win over Delullo.
Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2006 JBT SW Mojave Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a
guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division. Top
season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2006 JBT SW Touring Players'
Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per
division!
Thanks to new GMs Donald and Theresa Currie, and youth coordinator Verola, for
a great job hosting our Tour. 71 entrants shared in over $1,800 in scholarships awarded. Please continue to
help spread the word about the terrific benefits
of bowling JBT SW events!
