KEYSTONE LANES

champs Alex Horst & Caymann Huntley

Two bowlers tasted JBT victory for the very first time in exciting JBT Southern California Conference action at Keystone Lanes.  The $1,692 awarded put the Junior Bowlers Tour over the $1 Million mark in scholarships awarded!

The scratch division stepladder finals opened with Eric Milne striking out in the tenth frame for a 196-183 victory over Bryan Norton.  Milne stayed on a roll in round two, upending Will Jackson 232-189, before Horst took a page out of Milne’s book by striking out in his tenth for a 211-208 semifinal win.

Top qualifier Nick Powanda was leading a scratch division JBT event for the first time, having dominated the 8 games of qualifying.  However, it was Horst who handled the title match pressure the best, starting with the front five strikes, and never looking back for a 275-175 win and his first JBT title.

On this million-dollar day, the handicap division produced a milestone of its own.  Shayne Huntley opened the stepladder finals with a 193-185 victory over Kristine Cuevas.  Huntley followed with a 208-195 win over Arizona’s Taylor King, and backed that up with a huge 268-193 defeat of Robert Page to advance to the finals.

Guess who Shayne got to play for the title?  Of all people, Shayne’s little brother Caymann just happened to be the top seed.  This marks the first time in our 400+ tournament history that two brothers went at it in the title match.  After swearing (on camera) that they would have a polite match and car ride home, they both produced some excellent bowling.  In the end, Caymann escaped with a 247-242 win, good for his first career JBT title.

In its eleven season history, the JBT has now awarded $1,000,385 in scholarships- thanks to all our bowlers, parents, sponsors, and host centers for helping make this amazing total possible!

Only 61 bowlers competed in the event, so we hope everyone who attended had a great time, and will spread the word about the great benefits of bowling JBT.   Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2007 JBT So Cal Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division.  Top season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2007 JBT Touring Players' Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per division!

Big thanks to Dave Piazza and everyone at Keystone for a terrific job hosting our event for the first time.  Over $1,600 in scholarships were awarded.  Want in on the fun?  Come on out to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
