RIVERSIDE LANES

champs Kyle King & Kelly White

Kyle King capped off an excellent weekend with his first scratch win, while Kelly White tasted victory for the first time, in exciting JBT Mojave Conference action at Laughlin's Riverside Lanes.

The scratch finals field wasn't determined until a rolloff for the 5th spot, which Joe Claspell won over Jerod Florez.  Claspell rode that momentum to a 239-204 win over Brian Weyrauch in round one of the finals.  Claspell was good again in round two, winning 241-182 over Bobby Majdanski.  King derailed Joe in the semis though, 224-157, to advance to the title match.

King, who had a runner-up finish the day before in California, was eagerly looking to add a win to an already hot start to the season, but top seed and 12-time champ Kris George, who is always tough in Mojave events, stood in the way.  After a neck-and-neck start, two late uncharacteristic opens by George paved the way for a 199-181 victory for King, and his 4th career JBT win.

Justus Trader made history in the first round of the handicap stepladder finals by rolling a 278 scratch, which when added to his handicap equaled the highest game ever rolled in our finals, a disturbing-looking 333, defeating a fine 210 effort by James Hawkins, Jr.  The 333 was the sixth-highest game in JBT history overall, as well.

Trader 'cooled off' to a 260 game in round two, but amazingly it wasn't enough, as Kelly White came up with an even bigger 262 score!  Thus, Trader now owns the statistical anomaly of rolling 593 for two games (with handicap), and not getting to roll another game! White rolled with that momentum for a thrilling 199-197 win over a tough Drew Stern in the semifinal to reach the title match.

Top seed Joshua Shoup had absolutely dominated this event, rolling his personal-best high game en route to easily leading.  However, Miss White had all the momentum going her way, and she rose to the occasion in the late frames, pulling away for a 237-209 win, her first JBT title.

75 bowlers competed in the event, so we hope everyone who attended had a great time, and will spread the word about the great benefits of bowling JBT.   Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2007 JBT Mojave Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division.  Top season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2007 JBT Touring Players' Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per division!

Big thanks to everyone at Riverside for their usual terrific job hosting our events.  Over $1,900 in scholarships were awarded.  Want in on the fun?  Come on out to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
