MILWAUKIE BOWL

champs Rob Edwards & James Dunbar

James Dunbar won his first JBT title, while Rob Edwards made it two in a row in exciting JBT Pacific Northwest Conference action at Milwaukie Bowl.

The scratch division stepladder finals opened with Jake Klemsen defeating Bret Baldwin, who had rolled a clutch 290 to just sneak into the finals.  Klemsen remained hot in round two, defeating Cody Stone 240-191.  In a rematch of the previous JBT's title match, Edwards then got the best of Klemsen again, this time by a 247-185 margin to reach the title match.

The tournament had been all about top qualifier Dean Richards up to this point.  Dean's +259 5-game total, including a 299 game, was 12th best in JBT's 400+ tournament history, and his +459 8-game score was 6th best ever!  However, Edwards knows he can win JBT events, having won in Burien last time, and he was able to ride that confidence to a 222-202 win, good for his second consecutive title to open the Pacific NW season.

Patrick Hicock opened up his first handicap stepladder finals in style, with a 200-182 win over second-time finalist Travis McAllister.  Arizona's Kyle Frederick then defeated Hicock 237-178, and followed with a 219-215 thriller over Thomas Nylund to reach the title match.

Top seed James Dunbar had an excellent day thus far in leading his first JBT, but had his hands full with the well-travelled Frederick, a 3-time champ who has attended both Pac-NW JBTs so far from the Phoenix area.  After Dunbar finished at a fine 229, Frederick had the chance to throw three strikes in the tenth for the win.  Kyle's first shot was true, but an excellent second shot left a wobbly 10-pin, giving Dunbar a thrilling 229-219 win and his first JBT title.

43 bowlers competed in the event, and over $1,000 in scholarships were awarded.  We hope everyone who attended had a great time, and will spread the word about the great benefits of bowling JBT.   Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2007 JBT Pacific Northwest  Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division.  Top season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2007 JBT Touring Players' Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per division!

Big thanks to PBA superstar Dave Husted and everyone at Milwaukie for hosting our event.  Want in on the fun?  Come on out to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
