On a shotmaker’s lane condition, Stephen Gaucin and Bethany Baker made the shots when they needed them to capture JBT titles in exciting New Mexico-Texas Conference action at Sun Lanes.

Justin Medina opened the scratch division stepladder finals with a 173-162 win over Nathan Shock.  Stephen Gaucin then defeated Medina 171-149, and followed with a 198-187 win over BJ Baker to reach the title match.

Who did Stephen have to face for the title?  None other than Jeremy Medina, who defeated him less than 24 hours ago for the title in Silver City.  One of the rarest accomplishments in JBT is winning two titles in a weekend, and Stephen wasn’t about to be on the losing end of both days of that stat.  Despite a great effort from Medina, Stephen won the match 198-173, good for the 9th title of his JBT career.

The handicap finals was all about Bethany Baker, as she pulled off the rare feat of climbing the 8-person ladder for her 3rd career title.  She began with a 204 game that easily beat El Pasoans Cyera Quintana (286) and CJ Jordan (135).   Baker rolled a 196 in round two that beat Brittany Leiby (282) and El Paso’s Andrew Esparza (168).  She then fired a huge 247 to beat Cory Shepan (220) and one more El Paso bowler, Dillon Bridge (159), to reach the title match.

  Top qualifier Ryan Gose grabbed the lead in the semifinal rounds, but found himself in an unsavory situation against Baker, who had all the momentum going for her.  Despite a strong effort from Ryan, Bethany won the match 212-176, completing the amazing run to the victory.

  Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2007 JBT NM-TX Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division.  Top season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2007 JBT Touring Players' Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per division! 

 Big thanks to everyone at Sun for a great job hosting our event.  Over $1,800 in scholarships was awarded to the 80 bowler field!
