JOHNSON LANES

champs Christian Jensen & Rebeca Reguero

One JBT veteran made a long-awaited return to the winner’s circle, while another veteran finally tasted victory, in exciting JBT action at Johnson Lanes.

Mike Ingeman survived an early gutter ball to win round one of the scratch finals with a 223 game, beating Kevin Schoenfeld and DeShaun Jefferson’s 203.   A thrilling round two saw Ingeman improve to 234, but he could only watch as Randy Cote and Elias Ewert battled it out to a blistering 269 tie.  In the rolloff, Cote’s strike defeated Elias’ 9-count to advance.  Jensen then took over in the semifinals, as his 219 game beat Cote (174) and Shane Peck (212) to advance to the final.

Top qualifier Dan Bodinet reached the scratch division title match for the second straight Arizona event, but unfortunately was to suffer the same bad luck he experienced last time at Tempe Village.  It had been a long time between wins for Jensen, but he rolled to a very confident 244-216 victory, good for the 8th title of his JBT career.

Amy Hammann opened the handicap division stepladder finals with a 217 game that defeated fine efforts from Pamela Perez (214) and Jordan Bell (203).  Rebecca Bodinet then fired a big 259 to oust Hammann (195) and Joshua Ebert (214).  Rebecca Reguero then reached the title match with a 202 game that just squeaked by Bodinet (201) and Kyle Klein (188).

Top qualifier Eric Vitzthum has been red-hot lately, but was unable to get beyond third place.  He eliminated that problem by leading the event, but found himself a red-hot Reguero in the finale.  Rebeca rolled her high game of the day to defeat Vitzthum 259-201, finally capturing her first career JBT title.

107 bowlers competed in the event.   Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2007 JBT Arizona Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division.  Top season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2007 JBT Touring Players' Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per division!

Big thanks to everyone at Johnson Lanes for a terrific job hosting our event.  Over $2,200 in scholarships was awarded.  Want in on the fun?  Come on out to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
