SUNCOAST
champs Adam Reynoso & Mike May
Sometimes title matches are anticlimactic after all the action of a JBT tournament. That was far from the case at Suncoast, however, as Adam Reynoso and Mike May captured well-earned victories in thrilling JBT action.
The scratch division finals was all about JR Monteith until the finale. He began with a 246-215 win over Adam's brother Andy Reynoso. JR followed with a 205-196 win over fellow Californian Cameron Smith, and then dispatched DJ Sloan in a thriller, 270-247, to reach top qualifier Reynoso.
After a see-saw battle, both bowlers opened in the ninth frame, giving Adam a one pin lead headed into the tenth. Reynoso only filled 19 pins, giving Monteith a chance to fill 20 to tie, or double to win. After a spare, JR could only get nine pins, and Reynoso had the heartstopping 213-212 victory. Monteith did take over the points lead, however, with the fine day.
Two familiar faces opened the handicap finals, with Logan Kennedy edging James Hawkins 192-190. Kennedy then got by Taelor McKenrick 214-180, and followed with a huge 295-190 win over first time finalist Donovan Koff to reach the title match.
Top qualifier May had a breakout tournament after an okay-but-not-great start to the season, but found himself in a battle with Kennedy. After an open eighth frame, May clutched it up and struck out from there, good for a 237-232 victory and his first career JBT title.
64 bowlers competed in the event, so we hope everyone who attended had a great time, and will spread the word about the great benefits of bowling JBT. Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2007 JBT Mojave Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division. Top season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2007 JBT Touring Players' Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per division!
Big thanks to everyone at Suncoast for their usual terrific job hosting our events. Over $1,600 in scholarships were awarded. Want in on the fun? Come on out to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
