YORBA LINDA BOWL

champs Josh Blanchard & Zach Hattori

Josh Blanchard dominated the scratch division all day, while Zach Hattori pulled yet another stunning comeback, in JBT Southern California Conference action at Yorba Linda Bowl.

The scratch division finals began with Preston Fukumizu marking in the tenth frame for a 215-205 win over two-time defending All-Conference Bowler of the year BJ Baker.  Fukumizu rolled on in round two with a 224-189 over Will Jackson.  A see-saw semifinal match saw both bowlers open in the tenth frame, with Fukumizu's missed 10-pin giving Foster Phandanouvong his first trip to a scratch title match with a 182-174 win.

Top qualifier Blanchard was the only bowler averaging over 200 on the very demanding lane conditions, and the Junior Team USA member left no doubt in the title match, cruising to a 254-138 win over Phandanouvong for his fifth career JBT title.

The handicap division finals opened with BJ's sister Bethany Baker avenging big brother's loss with a 209-157 win over Joe McLeod.  Justin Basom then defeated Baker 239-175, before falling in a nailbiting semifinal 184-170 to Dorian Herrero.

Top qualifier Hattori had snuck into the first cut with a clutch last game, then went on a tear to grab the top seed for the finals.  He continued his roll in the title match, cruising to a 243-198 win over Herrero.  This marks his 23th consecutive matchplay win (after going 12-0 to win the prestigious Las Vegas Open in August), an amazing accomplishment!

Only 81 bowlers competed in the event, so we hope everyone who attended had a great time, and will spread the word about the great benefits of bowling JBT.   Everyone who finished in the top 5 qualifies for the 2007 JBT So Cal Invitational Tournament, the regular season's year end event, featuring a guaranteed minimum $1,000 first place scholarship in each division.  Top season-long point scorers also qualify for the 2007 JBT Touring Players' Championship, featuring a guaranteed minimum $2,000 first place scholarship per division!

Big thanks to everyone at Yorba Linda for their usual terrific job hosting our events.  Over $1,800 in scholarships were awarded.  Want in on the fun?  Come on out to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
