BRC WEST COVINA

champs Matt Cormack & Eddie Sayles

Matt Cormack and Eddie Sayles showed there are two different ways to be unstoppable in exciting JBT So Cal Conference action at BRC West Covina.

Cormack wasn't unstoppable until he snuck into the scratch stepladder finals, where he won four matches to claim the victory.  he began with a 216-180 win over Anthony Stevenson.  He then beat the last righty in the field, Kyle King, 195-185, and followed with a 202-178 win over Mark French in what may be has JBT swan song, to advance to the title match.

Top qualifier Jeff Spiesman looked unbeatable, but Cormack was determined to end a victory drought in singles competition.  After both bowlers started with triples, they both suffered rough mid-games, but it was Matt who rebounded first and best, starting a new string and ending up with a 234-218 win, his 3rd career JBT championship.

By contrast, Sayles' dominance was day-long, rolling 299 to open the day en route to claiming the top seed.  The other 299 on the day was rolled by another handicap bowler, Keyon Lemus, and he opened the handicap stepladder finals with a 196-182 win over Brad Hansen.  Robert Lim then struck in the tenth frame to defeat Lemus 197-190.  Abel Gervacio then squeaked by Lim, 169-152, to advance to his first title match.

Sayles came out firing in the title match, and despite Gervacio's best efforts he was unable to keep up Sayles' torrid pace.  In the end, Eddie's 243-201 win was good for his third title of the season, a great stat when it comes towards end of the season awards time!

Big thanks to Mr. Chad Cidlevicz and the whole crew at West Covina for an excellent job hosting our Tour for the first time!  Over $1,900 in scholarships were awarded- want in on the fun?  Come on down to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
