FIESTA LANES
champs Kyle King and Jordan Spam
Kyle King won his 4th consecutive NM-TX event, while Jordan Spam broke through for his first win, in exciting JBT action at El Paso's Fiesta Lanes.
How versatile and confident is this guy? King opened his day with an ugly 170-140, then switched to a urethane ball to tackle a condition he found tricky, and then proceeded to climb all the way to the #5 seed for the finals. He opened the stepladder with a 229-213 win over Carlos Mendez in round one. He then tore through two talented Colorado bowlers, Nathan Shock in round two and Jess Gagliardi in the semifinals, to reach yet another title match.
Top seed Stephen Gaucin is one of the toughest bowlers on our Tour, and gave King all he could handle in the title match. However, when he didn't come up with a strike in the tenth, that gave Kyle the margin he needed for a 224-216 victory, and his 11th career JBT title. Although it isn't his 4th consecutive win personally (he's traveled to 4 of our 5 conferences en route to a large all-conference points lead), he becomes only the second bowler in JBT history to win four events in one conference in a row, joining Andrew Cain in that category.
Sam Zermeno has had a great start to the season, and continued that with a 234-196 round one win over Mike Romero in the handicap division stepladder. In a high scoring round two, Zermeno escaped with a 243-230 win over Eric Sanford when Eric suffered two late opens. Jordan Spam then stopped Zermeno 288-223 to reach his first title match.
Top seed Andrew Esparza was enjoying his best JBT event ever, but so was Spam, so it looked to be an exciting title match. In the final, Esparza bowled an excellent clean game but couldn't catch a double, and Spam did enough for a 246-228 victory. The title was not only his first, but the Spam family's first, as younger brother Jaden and older brother Jamison will be jealous of the middle kid this time!
Thanks to everyone at Fiesta for hosting our Tour again. Over $1,300 in scholarships was awarded- want in on the fun? COme on down to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
