GIRLS' INVITATIONAL

champ Rachelle Davis

Rachelle Davis did what no other female JBT bowler has been able to accomplish- getting past Courtney Dutton 191-187 to capture the JBT Girls' All-Conference Invitational, hosted by Las Vegas' Texas Station.

26 of the best female bowlers in the Southwest began the event, and were whittled down to the top 12, including all-conference female point leaders Kaitlin Mayall and Rebeca Reguero, who joined top scorers of the day Brittany Page (averaging over 230) and Amanda Falk with one-round byes.

In round one of the finals, Davis got past Alicia Sullivan 424-344, Allie Ijams beat Christina Fraijo 433-363, Alyssa Madrid got by April Urban 449-339, and Courtney Dutton eliminated Jessica Hetkowski 431-375 in two-game, total pinfall action.

In the second round, Davis ousted top seed Mayall 476-425, Falk exploded for a 503-4445 win over Ijams, Madrid upset Page 402-394, and Dutton eliminated Reguero 394-384.  Rebeca's loss wrapped up the girls all-conference Bowler of the Year award for Mayall, capping off an amazing battle between these two extremely talented ladies all season long.

In one game semifinal matches, Rachelle beat Amanda in a high scoring battle 257-239, while a much lower-scoring affair saw Dutton beat Madrid 182-170 to set up our finale.

It was deja vu all over again, as Dutton and Davis sparred last season for the Girls Invite title.  Moreover, it was Dutton who won our open-field all-girls event this season, so nobody had figured out how to beat her so far.  In the end, then, it was Courtney who unfortunately beat herself, uncharacteristically missing three single-pin spares in the title match to allow Davis to only need to mark for the win.  Rachelle got the spare, the title, and a huge $800 payday, thanks to some terrific sponsorship for this event from Ebonite, Impact Bowling, and many others.

It is sometimes tough for top female bowlers to shine in bowling, and we are proud to have this chance to showcase our very talented girls.  Congratulations to all who qualified, and thanks to all those who participated.  If you were eligible and didn;'t, we hope to see you at the next one, you missed a truly special event!
