K&K BOWLING SERVICES OPEN
champs BJ Baker & Eric Hatchett
Two JBT bowlers enjoying already outstanding seasons added another title to their collections at the K&K Bowling Services Open, hosted by Kingman's Cerbat Lanes.
Bethany Baker opened the handicap division stepladder finals by marking in the tenth for a 161-158 win over Cassy Canoy. Tyler Nall then beat Baker 181-135, before Josh Chefalo stopped Nall, the winner the last time we visited Cerbat, 180-146, to reach his first title match.
Top seed Hatchett, already enjoying a great year, ensured the points lead going into the Invitational by grabbing the top seed today. Showing the confidence that comes with being in this position before, Hatchett rolled a great game and defeated Chefalo 196-159 to capture the third title of his season and career.
Nathan Panaligan opened the scratch division of the stepladder finals with a 225-193 win over defending champ Andy Reynoso. Nathan then dispatched all-conference points leader Kyle King, whose 4th place finish moves him into a tie for the Mojave points lead, 232-149. In the semifinal, Panaligan and his good friend Brandon Allred engaged in a tough match that ended dramatically, with Allred chopping a 3-6-10 to tie at 196. Given second life, Nathan escaped in the rolloff 10-9, to advance to the title match.
Top seed BJ Baker conquered the tricky Viper pattern to grab the top seed, continuing yet another of the many dominant runs he's put together in his amazing JBT career. This match figured to be a dogfight on paper, as it was our first ever title match between two Main Event champions, as well as two of our most veteran bowlers, with 42 titles and over $40,000 in scholarship money earned between them! While Nathan struggled to strike, he put on an absolute spare clinic, making tough spare after tough spare to stay in it, and finishing off with a 4-5 conversion in the tenth to force a 20-fill from Baker, working on a spare, in the tenth to win. To the surprise of nobody, BJ did just that, going strike-spare for a 197-196 thrilling win and title #31 of his JBT career.
Thanks to a great sponsorship by K&K bowling services, the new owners of the pro shop at Cerbat, winning the handicap doubles with sister Bethany, an extra $100 for winning with Ebonite, and a good bracket showing, Baker earned a whopping $559 on the day. 6 other bowlers earned over $200 on the day, so we thank K&K very much for being on board with us- be sure to check them out in Kingman and Las Vegas for all your bowling needs!
Big thank not only to K&K, but to everyone else at Cerbat for anothergreat job hosting our Tour. 67 entrants shared in a tremendous total of nearly $3,000 in scholarships- want in on the fun? Come on down to the next JBT event, it's as simple at that!
