JR Monteith and Brandon Turner captured victories in exciting JBT Southern California Conference action at San Diego's Kearny Mesa Bowl.

Arizona's Greg Garbera, the defending champ here, opened the scratch division stepladder finals with a 222-210 win over BJ Baker, who is off to a red-hot start in JBT play.  Garbera then peeled off ten in a row in a 277-255 thriller over Jeff Spiesman.  Monteith then came on to beat Garbera 214-185 to reach his first title match of the season.

Top seed Mark French was looking to avenge a semifinal loss back at Yorba, but had his hands full with Monteith, the defending all-conference JBT Bowler of the Year.  Trailing after five frames, JR made a big move left and peeled off the next six strikes for a 235-214 win, the 7th title of his JBT career.

Caymann Huntley, the Yorba champion, opened the handicap division of the stepladder finals with a 244-178 win over Stephanie Udell.  Matt Towt defeated Huntley in round two 230-216, marking the first time Caymann has lost a stepladder match, having captured titles in his other three appearances.  Brittany Kolatzny then defeated Towt in a close one, 185-182, to advance to her second career title match.

Top seed Brandon Turner rebounded from a struggle at Yorba to lead the event for 7 of the 8 qualifying games here.  He stayed in control throughout the title match as well, winning 233-188, good for the first title of his JBT career.
