MOJAVE DOUBLES

champs Phil Platko, Andy Reynoso, Eric Hatchett, and Susie Cloud

Two juniors added more JBT titles to their collections with the help of two great adults, in exciting JBT Mojave Conference Doubles action, hosted by South Point.

Scratch champs Andy Reynoso and Phil Platko won four and half matches in the finals for the victory... more on that in a moment.  They began with a 202-181 win over ASU teammates Mike Ingeman and Kevin Saunders.  The 'half game' part came in the next match, when Mark French struck out in the tenth, tying him and partner Will Haverland with Platko and Reynoso at 234 (a magic number around JBT lately, see the Canoga Park results for more!)  The one-shot best ball rolloff that ensued ended up going four frames, all bowlers matching strike for strike as the crowd went berserk, until finally Haverland left an 8-count and Platko's 9 then was good enough for the win.  A close and otherwise headline-grabbing semifinal match then seemed almost anticlimactic, as Phil and Andy got by BJ Baker and JBT alumni Josh Blanchard 213-208, to reach the title match.

Top seed Devin Bidwell and Steven Black, while both very talented, are a contrast in JBT statistical results, as Bidwell owns only 1 JBT title, while Steven captured his 42nd last week in the AZ Doubles.   This time though, the lefty-righty combo of Phil and "LG" were not to be denied, as Reynoso's tenth frame strike wrapped up a 228-215 win in a well bowled match all the way around.

In a battle that included the two finalists from our recent Texas Station event, Aubrey Calabrese and Matt Raagas got the best of Ian Hanuscin and Austin Signoretti in round one of the handicap finals, 201-191.   The very pink team of Josh Shoup and Kaitlin Mayall then took over, with a 237-180 win over Aubrey and Matt, followed by a 188-178 win over Taelor McKenrick and Rich Boyd, to reach the title match.

Top seed Eric Hatchett, whose "50+games of practice" a week have paid off with a tremendous early season run, teamed with adult partner Susie Cloud to grab the top seed for the event, but would face a tough challenge in Josh and Kaitlin, two JBT vets that have been so close to wins this season but have been unable to break through.  Unfortunately for them, the streak would continue, as Cloud and Hatchett showed no faults in their game at all in a 227-201 win for the title, the 2nd win of the season for Eric.

Big thanks to Mike Monyak for his usual fantastic job in hosting this huge and very fun event at the spectacular South Point.  Over $3,500 in scholarships was awarded to the field- want in on teh fun?  Come on down to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
