Kyle King and Brandy Main captured JBT titles in an important double points event in exciting JBT TX-NM Conference action at Oasis Lanes.
King climbed the ladder en route to his 7th career JBT victory. He began with a 202-138 win over birthday boy William Entsminger. He then beat two straight Colorado bowlers- Nathan Shock 200-176, and Holiday champ Jess Gagliardi 225-197, to reach the title match.
Top seed Andy Byer led the field on an extremely demanding lane condition, which was no surprise to anyone who follows our Tour. However, it was Kyle with the red-hot hand in the ladder, and Byer was unable to stop his momentum, as King threw a mid-game six-bagger en route to a 234-202 win. For Byer, it was a frustrating second straight second-place finish, but still a valuable boost in the early season's point standings.
Travis Shepan opened the stepladder finals with a 208-196 victory over Taylor Quintana. Leo Guzman then thrilled the hometown crowd with a 209-208 squeaker over Shepan. Santa Fe's Stephanie Barela then beat Guzman 240-186 to reach the title match.
Top seed Brandy Main had been at or near the top of the leaderboard all day, but seemed to have some thumb problems as she struggled in the title match. However, Barela was unable to maintain her momentum from the semifinal match, allowing Brandy to stay in the match. As a result, two late spares from Main was enough to win the match, 196-183, good for her first career JBT title.
