CERBAT LANES

champs Peter Mochizuki and Zach Simon

Peter Mochizuki and Zach Simon captured JBT titles in exciting dual-conference action at Kingman's Cerbat Lanes.

Kyle King, whose hand was so beat up he was only bowling with one finger in the ball, still managed to make the finals, and he opened up the stepladder with a 229-214 win over Joey Chuo.  King then rolled past Cameron Smith 244-178, before Amanda Falk finally stopped Kyle 226-216 to advance to the title match.

It was no surprise to see Amanda in the finals.  She was the defending champ having won the AZ Doubles two weeks ago, was throwing the ball very well, AND it was a JBT Women's Series event, which has seen an improbable run of females making the open scratch title match on the same day as a women's series event.

Top seed Peter Mochizuki had a heck of a day of his own, though.  After starting with a dismal 141, he fired a 245 in game five just to squeak into the cut.  He then blasted 798 for the semifinals to grab the top seed by one pin over Falk.  Peter started the title match with an open, while Falk ran off the front four.  However, Falk would only strike once more, while Mochizuki calmly peeled off a 7-bagger, good enough for the 233-215 win and his first career JBT title.

Mark Trudel opened up the handicap division stepladder finals with a 258-214 win over local bowler Joey Mogavero.  Brad Hansen then completely took over the finals,  blasting a big game (and needing most of it) to defeat Trudel 293-242, and following with an equally big effort in a 292-145 win over Adam DeMaio, to move on to his second career title match.

Top seed Zach Simon has bowled with us a long time, and was already guaranteed a tie for his best JBT result.  However, he was able to out-strike Hansen in the finale, and his 254-227 win was good for a long-awaited first career JBT title.

Big thanks to the whole crew in Kingman for another great job hosting us, in our traditional wrapup to the holiday weekend.   Over $2,600 was awarded to the large field- want in on the fun?  Get on over to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
