Riley Dempsey and Travis Johnson captured JBT titles in exciting JBT Arizona Conference action at the Traci Warren Memorial Open, hosted at AMF Deer Valley Lanes.
Eduardo Perez opened the stepladder finals with a ten strike, 268-191 performance over Kyle King. 20-time champ Kris George then defeated Perez 223-204. Brian Weyrauch then stepped in with a 255-225 triumph over George to reach the title match.
Top seed Dempsey was leading a JBT event for the first time, while Weyrauch was looking to win his first JBT singles competition. In the final, Brian was plagued by corner-pin carry issues, while Dempsey made a good move mid-game to give him the edge he needed, winning the match 204-187 for his first championship.
Derek Iozzio opened an 8-person stepladder finals with a 237 game that defeated Cody Vanderweyst (186) and Josh Shoup (175). Andrew Nicla, bowling in his first JBT event, then used a 205 to beat Iozzio (200) and Fellow first-timer Carson RIchards (167). Steven Acuff then fired a 218 to beat Nicla (205) and yet another JBT rookie, Brock Hargrove (209), to reach the title match.
Top seed Johnson had been at or near the top of the leaderboard all day, definitely showing confidence at his home bowling center. He finished off the day with a commanding 223-171 win over Acuff, good for his second career JBT title.
