HAZEL DELL LANES

champs Tyler Cruz & Jessica Bubnich

Tyler Cruz finally broke through for his first win, while Jessica Bubnich kept up her red-hot streak with another win, in exciting JBT Pac NW Conference action at Hazel Dell Lanes.

Cody Stone opened up the scratch division of the stepladder finals with a 234-203 win over Tristan Curtis.  Stone then amped it up to a big 265-192 win over Jordan Plunkett in round two.  Cruz then stopped Stone 202-179, to advance to the title match.

Top seed Marshall Kent had dominated the day, leading since round 3, but had a tough matchup against a determined Cruz, who had been oh-so-close to his first title in recent events.  In the finale, Cruz stayed solid while Kent really struggled with his spares, and the result was a 203-148 win for Tyler, who rejoiced in that first career win.

Sam Burns broke an early season slump by qualifying 4th for the finals, and he won round one of the stepladder with a 250-196 win over Brianna Hemming.   Ryan Gallagher then took over, beating Burns 265-206, and following with a 228-185 win over Ryan Nikolas to reach the title match.

Top seeded Bubnich, a winner at last month's Doubles with Wes Jenkins, proved she was plenty good solo by grabbing the lead after the last semifinal game.  Late strikes sealed the deal  for Jessica, as she won the game 217-199 for her second consecutive and third career JBT title.

Over $1,400 in scholarships were awarded to all ages and averages at the event.  Big thanks to Dave Husted, Ray, and the whole crew at Hazel Dell for making us feel very welcome in our first visit to Vancouver.  Want in on the fun?  Visit us at www.bowljbt.com, and come on down to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
