KEARNY MESA BOWL

Champs Kyle King and Anthony Bautista

Kyle King and Anthony Bautista opened the 08-09 JBT So Cal Conference season in style, with victories at San Diego's Kearny Mesa Bowl.

James Hefley opened a scratch division stepladder finals that had all 5 bowlers separated by just 18 pins after 8 game with a 194-174 win over Shane Peck.  In a round two battle between two two-handed bowlers, Matt Jones defeated Hefley 202-161.  Greg Garbera then beat Jones 242-191 to set up the title match.

Garbera is extremely comfortable at Kearny Mesa, having finished 1st and 3rd in his last two visits here.  However, top seed Kyle King was looking to start the season just as hot as he was all last season en route to all-conference JBT Bowler of the Year honors.  The two Arizonans engaged in a well-bowled match, with King's tenth frame spare locking up a 216-211 win, the 17th of his JBT career.

Abi Anadilla opened up the handicap division stepladder finals with a huge 280 game (with handicap), beating Brandon Turner (197) and Kaitlin Silva (160).  Anadilla remained hot in round two, firing 241 to dismiss Brett Hirsch (206) and Brad Hansen (203).  JJ Robeniol then shot 210 to beat Anadilla (197) and Jeff Ingram (183) to reach his first JBT title match.

Top seed Anthony Bautista had led the event since game 5, but struggled early on in the title match.  However, he was able to recover enough to set up a dramatic tenth frame, which ended in a 205-204 one-pin squeaker for Anthony over Robeniol, good for the first title of Bautista's JBT career.

Big thanks to everyone at Kearny Mesa for hosting our Tour once again.  $2,190 was awarded to the 96 player field.  Want in on the fun?  Come on out to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
