TOWN & COUNTRY REC.
champs Randy Cote and Austin Masterson
Randy Cote and Austin Masterson mastered the lanes in Roswell, capturing JBT titles in exciting JBT NM-TX Conference action at Town & Country Lanes.
Cote and Dan Romero were the only bowlers to average over 200 on the demanding shark lane condition, but while Romero struggled to advance early in the survivor format's low-bowler-out matchplay, Randy remained untouchable. That remained the same when the two faced each other in one semifinal, as Cote won 235-196. Meanwhile, Nathan Shock got by Amanda Falk (who made 4 Invitationals during her winter break home from school) 218-183, to reach the title match.
Shock, much like William Entsminger, has been bowling successfully with JBT for a while now but hasn't broken through for that first win. Just like William the day before, it looked like this might be the day. In the tenth frame, Shock could have struck to win but left a 10-pin. After sparing it, he now needed a strike to tie, but he left a 2-pin on the ensuing shot, giving Cote the thrilling 225-224 win and his 6th career JBT title.
The handicap semifinals began with 24 survivors, who were whittled down to 8 in exciting 'survivor' rounds. In the round of 8, Kimmie Amerson, a past champ in Roswell, beat Bailey McFarland 194-188; Austin Masterson beat Seth Jaramillo 208-140; Taylor Quintana eliminated Arielle Palma 232-197; and Austin's brother Taylor beat Josh Garcia 223-186.
In tightly contested semifinal matches, Austin beat Kimmie 225-218, while in an all-Taylor matchup, Quintana beat Masterson 230-221, to reach the title match.
In the title match, Masterson put together an early turkey, and that was plenty to carry him to a 224-176 win and his first career JBT title, continuing the trend of at least one Roswell bowler capturing a title in their home center each year we visit.
Thanks again to Brian Casaus and his crew of aliens for always making us feel welcome each year we visit. Almost $3,000 in scholarships were awarded on the weekend- want in on the fun? Come on down to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
