TEXAS STAR LANES at TEXAS STATION
champs Randi Speiler & Ryan Howard
Ryan Howard and Randi Speiler captured JBT titles in exciting Mojave Conference action at Texas Station.
In contrast to the difficult conditions at the Main Event, hosted by Texas Station, a house shot let the bowlers strike a ton, highlighted by Jordan Ferrer's 300 game, only the 7th of the JBT season, far fewer than previous years. Ferrer kept the good day going with a 225-214 win over Tim Ursillo to open the scratch division stepladder finals. Jordan then rolled on with a big 256-171 win over Kris George, before Kyle King stopped Jordan 208-169, to arrive at another title match.
Kyle was looking to capture his landmark 30th career title, but top seed Ryan Howard was looking to avenge a heartbreaking title match loss to King just last month in Laughlin. The bad news for Ryan is that he struggled in the title match to a 158 game. The good news was, astonishingly, that was enough, as King's 148 came up short, and a thrilled Howard captured his first career JBT title!
Samantha Meyers has been bowling better lately, and opened up the handicap finals with a 247-200 win over Austin Signoretti. Tyler Ottenschot then made his second consecutive finals a success with a 208-202 thriller over Meyers. Tyler then beat Jon Gutierrez 210-190 to advance to the title match.
Top seed Randi Speiler won the first JBT event of the season in San Diego, and finally got back to another title match by nabbing the top seed here. Although Ottenschot bowled a fine 229, Speiler came up huge, rolling 236 scratch for a 281-229 win and her 2nd career JBT title.
Thanks as always to Jerry Francomano and the crew at Texas for always making us feel at home. Over $1,300 in scholarships were awarded to juniors of all ages and averages- want in on the fun? Come on down to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
