2023 JBT Las Vegas Main Event- Scratch Singles

Lucas Finley & Elias O'Hollaren; finalists

Lucas Finley of Longmont, CO defeated Elias O'Hollaren of San Diego CA in a thrilling 246-245 finale to capture the scratch singles division of the 2023 JBT Las Vegas Main Event, hosted and sponsored by the South Point Bowling Plaza.

Garrett Lee began the bracket style stepladder finals with a win over Bud Sicard, while Daniel Hong beat Dmitri Richardson in simultaneous round one action.  Finley, the #4 seed, then stopped Lee, and followed with an upset over top qualifier Chasten Pojas to reach the title match.  On the other branch, Austin Grammar stopped Hong in a great match, advancing against O'Hollaren.  Elias knew he would need a big game to beat a locked in Grammar, and all he did was come up with the only 300 game of the week on the demanding singles pattern, advancing to the title match with the perfecto.

Finley was looking to avenge last year's runner-up finish to Costa Gastouniotis, and stayed close to O'Hollaren after Elias' string finally ended at 16.  However, a missed 7-pin did big damage, and he'd need to be perfect and get help the rest of the way.  With a chance to shout out in the 11th, O'Hollaren left a 2-pin, giving Finley the chance to get 29 pins in his tenth for the win.  Lucas calmly stepped up and did exactly that, throwing two perfect strikes followed by an inconsequential 7-pin for the one-pin championship victory.  The win earned Finley a record $5,300 first place prize.  Elias banked $3,500, which was augmented to nearly $5K himself with big success in other Main Event categories (including the U17 category- he's doing all this at a very early age!)

Big thanks to all for attending, and our amazing sponsors and vendors for making an event of this scope possible.  We look forward to even bigger and better things at the 2024 Main Event, December 26-30 back at the Plaza!
