PACIFIC LANES
champs Cameron Weier & Janai Romanoff
Cameron Weier and Janai Romanoff ground out valuable, double-points victories on a demanding pattern, in exciting JBT Pac NW Conference action at Tacoma's Pacific Lanes.
The day before saw the highest scratch cut of the year, +70, on the Pacific house pattern, a 214 average. Today's sport-compliant pattern produced a -134 scratch cut, a 172 average, really showing how much lane patterns can dictate the scoring pace on any given day. Obviously, that put shotmaking at a premium, and two of our shotmakers opened up the finals, with Jordan Plunkett edging Chris Kirk 178-174. Plunkett then snuck by Brandon Dunson 183-170, before Weier stopped Jordan 225-185 to reach the title match.
Top seed Josh Jackson had been amazingly consistent all day, with a LOW game of 192, and all 7 other games over 200, to grab the top seed away from Cameron. However, it was Josh that struggled in the title match, while Weier really got locked in with an extreme far right angle, cruising to a 237-158 win and his 4th career JBT title. The double points win boosted him to 2nd in points, just 20 behind points leader Tyler Cruz.
In a recurring theme for the weekend, two brothers played in the finals, as Zane Hays opened up the handicap division finals with a 208-202 squeaker win over big brother Kyle Hays. Zane then bested Leslie Strong 211-199, before Romanoff stopped Hays 215-200 to reach the title match.
Top seed Tyler Boe used a great 8th game to leap from out of the finals to the #1 seed, but couldn't maintain the momentum in the finale, while Romanoff saved her best for last, firing a 187 scratch for a 247-184 victory over Boe, and her first career JBT title.
Another highlight of the day was provided by Ryan Gallagher, who made up for a rare missed cut by correctly predicting 10-7-5 and capturing a cool $600 scholarship for winning the PowerBowl jackpot!!! Amazingly, this is the third PowerBowl win in Washington, with no other state having more than one win- and ALL three wins have been by handicap division bowlers. Make sure you get your PowerBowl tickets at every JBT event!
Big thanks to Mike Clark and the whole very friendly team at Pacific for being great first-time hosts of our Tour. Over $2,000 in scholarships were awarded to juniors of all ages and averages- want in on the fun? Come on down to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
